Our Health, Wellness & Fitness Programs
Clients within the program will also be treated to our progressive fitness program, which includes a series of supplemental therapies to promote the overall health and well being of the individual including the following:
Chiropractic Care / Physical Therapy
A Chiropractor and Physical Therapist will first see the client prior to their involvement in massage therapy and/or a strength & conditioning program (band therapy, yoga, etc.). Studies show that chiropractic care can be beneficial to someone in recovery because individuals with addiction typically show some level of spinal subluxation (a vertebrae that is out of alignment), which can lead to an interference that distorts the communication between the spinal cord and brain. When the spinal cord and its nerves are aligned properly the production of “feel good” neurotransmitters are released naturally to the brain evoking a sense of calm and well-being. Misalignments can cause pain and the “feel good” neurotransmitters to be blocked. Note: Exam notes, daily notes, and progress notes are completed on site for every client after each visit with the chiropractic physician and/or the physical therapist.
The licensed massage therapist (LMT) treats each client for 20-30 minutes depending on what is desired from the treatment facility. Massages are a great compliment to our other services, because it encourages healing by promoting the flow of blood and lymphatic fluid, relieving tension, and stimulating nerves by stretching and loosening muscles and connective tissue. The massages are very relaxing which helps with anxiety and stress. All of our massage therapists are licensed and have had recent background checks completed. A daily medical note is required to be completed after each visit with the client.
OctFit Strength & Conditioning Program
A certified fitness coach instructs the resistance band exercise class, which is a strength training program intended to help you build muscle, loose weight, tone your body, and rehabilitate from injury. We use the “Bodylastics” exercise system, which relies on elastic tube resistance instead of gravity (used by free weight systems and most gym machines). Momentum is kept to a minimum, and the resistance is smooth and easy on joints. The bands are built with an anti-snap technology making injuries far more rare. The Bodylastics band system allows you to increase flexibility and loose body fat as you build muscle. With over 140 exercises, Bodylastics is designed for all fitness levels and intended to work all muscle groups. PTA’s (Physical Therapist Assistance) will be present to help facilitate when needed, help with modifications, and complete daily/progress notes.
Stretching and Flexibility Classes
This can be done while the clients are waiting to see the chiropractor or PT and only if there is not another wellness service occurring the same day. Flexibility training can help individuals manage pain and help prevent injury. The flexibility program will work on muscle tightness, balance, mobility, and will increase body awareness and promote relaxation of the muscle groups stretched.
12-Step Yoga Flow Classes
The 12-step yoga flow is a sequence of yoga postures that embodies the spiritual principles of 12-step recovery. By stretching and breathing with the 12-steps as an underlying theme, the goal is to help people in recovery reconnect with their bodies while simultaneously giving them a new understanding of the 12 steps, a sense of physical connection and mind-body wholeness. The yoga instructor will open the class by sharing something she is working on and set a positive intention dedicated to her practice, asking the clients to do so as well. The class will end with the serenity prayer or another positive message. During shavasana the instructor will lead everyone thru a guided mediation or moment of silence.
